On January 28, 2012, the Santa Maria Police Department experienced a very unfortunate and tragic event as a result of an officer-involved shooting. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the men and women of the Santa Maria Police Department, and to the family and friends of all the officers involved.

This is a tragedy of unparalleled proportions for our Police Department, our City family, and the community in general. I ask that the public continue to support the men and women of our Police Department as they strive to protect and serve the residents of our fine City. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

As you have no doubt heard, the City has invited and has entrusted outside agencies to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the January 28th incident and we have pledged our full cooperation in these investigations.

We acknowledge the desire of the public for more information on this shooting incident and that the lack of more available information can be frustrating to the public. Therefore, we have set up this webpage to be a clearinghouse for available City information on this matter.
