Northern Santa Barbara County Special Olympics offers 12 different Olympic-type sports for athletes with intellectual disabilities. It is fun and rewarding to be a Special Olympics athlete and it's very easy to sign up. For more information on registering as an athlete or the sports program, please call 925-0951 ext.135.

All athletes must have a current Special Olympics medical form on file and Unified Partners must have a volunteer application on file with the City Recreation and Parks Department before participating in any Special Olympics event. Please call 925-0951 ext.135 to make sure your medical form and/or volunteer application is up-to-date.

Unified Sports

In addition to the regular Special Olympics sports, the City also offers Unified Sports. Unified Sports is when a Special Olympics team is made up of half Special Olympics athletes and half non-Special Olympics athletes called "Unified Partners". The City currently has unified basketball and volleyball teams training, but is hoping to start additional unified teams, such as soccer and softball. If you are interested in participating on a unified team and/or you have friends that might be interested, call 925-0951 ext. 135. Please let the Recreation and Parks Department know if you have clubs, schools or organizations that would like to sponsor or form a unified sports team.
