ALL-AMERICA CITY COMMITTEE

Duties: Enhances, maintains, and evaluates the civic health and pride of the community through partnerships and creative approaches, ensuring collaboration with the public and private sector, in the true spirit of the All America City Program.

Mission: Create and coordinate community-based projects which address the ten components of the All-America City Civic Index. The ten components are Citizen Participation, Community Leadership, Government Performance, Volunteerism and Philanthropy, Inter-Group Relations, Civic Education, Community Information Sharing, Capacity for Cooperation and Consensus Building, Community Vision and Pride, and Inter-Community Cooperation.

Membership: The committee is comprised of nine members. One member must represent one of five (5) segments of the community: non-profit, business, ethnic diversity, government and youth/education. Four (4) members of the committee will serve at-large. Members are nominated by individual Councilmembers, appointed by the Mayor, and confirmed by the City Council. Terms are for two years.

Segment Descriptions:

At-large: A person who will represent a
section of the City of Santa Maria in which s/he
can serve as a voice and representative for the
residents in his/her neighborhood.

Business: A person who is employed at
a profit-oriented enterprise, specifically
involved in the management of a company.

Ethnic Diversity: A person who can bring
a common and distinctive racial, national,
religious, linguistic or cultural heritage.

 

Government: A person acting on behalf of
a federal, state or local agency in an official
capacity.

Non-Profit Organization: A person who
either works and/or volunteers for an
official, non-profit organization
serving the Santa Maria Valley.

Youth and/or Education: A person who
represents the youth in the Santa Maria Valley,
either through volunteer work and/or through
his/her profession. This can also be a person
who works in the educational field.

Meeting Schedule: Meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. (except December) at the City Hall Conference Room, 110 East Cook Street, Santa Maria.
