Mike Cordero retired in December 2008 from the Santa Maria Police Department after 36 years of service. He attended Santa Barbara City College and Allan Hancock College to obtain his A.S. degree. Mr. Cordero and his wife, Linda, have three grown sons: Michael, Albert and Adam. His law enforcement career began with the Carpinteria Police Department before he came to Santa Maria, where in December 1972 he started as a patrol officer.

His wife is a retired elementary school principal from the Santa Maria-Bonita School District. Together, they attend many local non-profit events and support their church.
