Mike Cordero retired in December 2008 from the Santa Maria Police Department after 36 years of service. He attended Santa Barbara City College and Allan Hancock College to obtain his A.S. degree. Mr. Cordero and his wife, Linda, have three grown sons: Michael, Albert and Adam. His law enforcement career began with the Carpinteria Police Department before he came to Santa Maria, where in December 1972 he started as a patrol officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in December 1983, and in 1992 was assigned to the Detective Bureau as the Narcotic Sergeant. This position had many additional responsibilities; he worked with detectives, managed and supervised cases, had oversight over Records, Property/Evidence and the Police Lab, and worked with the gang suppression team. Mr. Cordero was assigned back to patrol in about 1995 and worked as a Patrol Sergeant. In 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. His wife is a retired elementary school principal from the Santa Maria-Bonita School District. Together, they attend many local non-profit events and support their church. Mr. Cordero enjoys hunting big game in Colorado and all kinds of fishing. He relishes barbecue and has cooked for hundreds of people at one time. EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT:
